Adam Krier, a punk rocker hailing from Naperville, Illinois, never seems to sit still. Being a founding member of Chicago's well known bands Lucky Boys Confusion and Am Taxi, as well as a participating member of the Ike Reilly Assassination, it's apparent why he's never standing still when he's in the midst of the punk-rock scene in Chicago. Within these bands he does it all, from guitar to vocals to keys, outside these bands, he can play practically anything he can get his hands on. With all this experience, it's really a contradictory good problem that it's inventible for him to sit still.
As part of Lucky Boys Confusion, Am Taxi, and The Ike Reilly Assassination, you've had plenty of different experiences when it comes to performing. What is the been that you remember liking the most or that you would go back to as soon as all of this quarantine stuff is over? The best venues are those run by people who really care about representing the scene and supporting the community. These places tend to look out for the artist as well as the audience. Slim's in San Fransisco, First Ave in Minneapolis, Double Door in Chicago, and Mercury Lounge in New York City. Unfortunately some of those places are no longer around.
Over the years of performing, has anything, such as Covid-19, happened that changed the way you play shows? Nothing this extreme. We were on tour in Japan in 9/11. WE ended up stuck out there longer than we planned due to temporary ban on International flights. It affected the way we travelled slightly, and we may have had to reschedule a couple of things, but nothing like we're going through now.
Lucky Boys Confusions has a really loyal fanbase. Has it been a struggle to reach out to them without being able to actually hold concerts? Some of the guys have been doing live chats and we've been posting via various social media pages quite frequently. I know we've been doing our best to respond quickly to messages and comments we receive. With AM Taxi, we've been receiving some really incredibly cover versions of our songs sent from people everywhere. Ike Reilly has been doing live concert streams. We can't be there with him, but he has reunited his family to back him up. It's very entertaining!
Is there anything that you, as a band or individually, have done differently to still continue to play music for the fans during this time? AM Taxi put out a new record last year called Shiver By Me, and we've been putting together some acoustic, socially distanced videos of those songs, Everyone has been recording from their own spot, and we're mixing them together. It's been a nice way to keep in touch with each other and with the people listening.
Lucky Boys Confusion released Stormchasers in 2017 as a sort of comeback which is really great by the way. I still listen to it from time to time. My favorite off of it is "Good Luck". Are there any plans for an upcoming album? Thanks! Stubhy and I began working on new material earlier this year, but it has been difficult to do that lately. There are definitely some cool ideas going around. Thanks for the questions. Take care!
Thanks to Adam for taking the time to answer these questions! You can find all of his projects pretty much everywhere!
